MADISON, Wis. - Led by two players scoring double digits and three players shooting perfect from the free-throw line, the Wisconsin women's basketball team won their home-opener against William and Mary, 65-38, at the Kohl Center Sunday. The Badgers improve to 2-0 on the season.

The first five minutes of the game were close but a layup by senior Tara Steinbauer with 15:15 left in the half, gave Wisconsin a 7-5 lead. The Badgers never trailed from that point, going on a 7-0 run to take a 14-7 lead with 13:53 in the period. UW upped its lead to 14 points (22-8) as the Tribe failed to score a field goal for more than nine minutes.
Wisconsin was also held scoreless for nearly five minutes, but the Badgers gave up only seven points during the stretch. A layin by Morgan Paige ended the drought, putting UW up 24-15 with 2:38 to play.
The Badgers led 27-17 at the half and upped their lead to 40-24 with 15:44 to play as Tara Steinbauer scored nine of her game-high 22 points. All 10 UW players saw action as Wisconsin went up 61-34 with 2:39 to go in the game.
Sophomore Taylor Wurtz added 14 points as nine UW players scored. Wisconsin shot 43.8 percent (21-of-48) from the field and went to the line 26 times, making 19 for 73.1 percent. Wurtz and freshman Morgan Paige were a perfect 4-of-4 from the line.
For its second-straight game, UW held its opponent to under 30 percent from the field as William & Mary shot just 26.9 percent (14-of-52). The Tribe also went only 7-for-14 from the free throw line, with all 14 attempts coming from two players.
Taysha Pye led the Tribe with 12 points while Janine Aldridge brought in 10 points. Only two other players scored for William and Mary.
Wisconsin outrebounded the Tribe 42-31, led by a game-high 12 from Tara Steinbauer. Lin Zastrow pulled down nine boards. Pye led William & Mary with six boards.
UW finished with only eight turnovers on the day to William and Mary's 11.
The Badgers dished out 12 assists, led by five from Zastrow. Wisconsin also had six steals with three apiece coming from Wurtz and Jade Davis.
The Badgers travel for a game against in-state rival Green Bay on Thursday, then return home for the Big Ten/Big 12 Challenge against Kansas next Sunday. That game tips off at 5 p.m. from the Kohl Center.
