Madison, Wis. - The Wisconsin women's golf team will be traveling to some familiar venues when it begins play Sept. 12-14 at the Cougar Classic in Charleston, S.C. Four of the five fall tournaments will be on courses the Badgers played last fall.
UW was sixth of 18 posting an 878 at the Cougar Classic last season. The tournament is hosted by the College of Charleston and takes place at the Yeamans Hall Club ranked No. 92 in the world.
UW hosts its own Badger Invitational Sept. 26-27 at University Ridge Golf Course. Last year as host of the Big Ten Championship, Wisconsin hosted the Lady Northern those same dates finishing sixth of 15 with a 908. UW came back in the spring and placed fourth in the Big Ten Conference event with a school record 72-hole total 1194 which was the best Badger finish since 2002.
The Badgers are the defending champions of the Johnny Imes Invitational Oct. 4-5 in Columbia, Mo. UW was first of 18 teams last fall with a 908. It was the first tournament won by a UW golf squad since 2000.
Northwestern will be the next host of the Big Ten Championship and as such will host the fall version called the Lady Northern Invitational Oct. 11-12 at the Lake Shore Country Club in Evanston, Ill. They will host the Big Ten Conference meet April 22-24 at this same venue.
The final meet is a return to the Alamo Invitational hosted by the University of Texas at San Antonio Oct. 31-Nov. 2. That event was shortened to just 18 holes due to severe weather last year with UW finishing fifth of 12 with a 303.
