Post-match quotes vs. Green Bay
Coach Pete Waite
Opening Statement: “I was especially happy with the way we came out and started the match. To beat a team with that kind of point spread means you’re playing some very good ball and have some very good focus on the court. That was great.
“As the match went on we were able to insert some people and get them some court time, because we need to improve our depth and the confidence in those players coming in.”
On 13 players seeing playing time: “We started Bailey Reshel and she got a lot of time and did well. We hadn’t had a chance to some people in previous matches so it was really good for her to get out there and start and get comfortable, even on our home floor.”
On the success of the non-conference season: “We have done everything we have wanted to do for our pre-conference section of the season, gained a lot of confidence, have the players keep increasing their level of play as they went along, improve our depth as we go and become as solid as we can before we hit the conference matches.”
On the level of play from the reserves: “Well, Bailey Reshel (had) five kills, no errors. That’s pretty darn good hitting .357, I’d take that any day of the week. That’s fantastic. She was out there the most out of anybody. Jessa (Benson) went in and did a nice job in the third game and she had three kills in four attempts and that is very good for a setter to put up those kind of numbers. It’s just the matter of them being comfortable with anybody out there. We try to mix it up in practice all the time also, but it is different in front of a crowd.”
On the strength of the team passing: “I’d say it was probably three years ago when we had a passing corps like this, it was probably Jo Wack, (Amanda) Berkley and (Megan) Mills out there. But this group is very solid and we feel good when Anne (Hickey) is out there and Al and Julie is out there passing solid all of the time. That is really important because you don’t have any offense if you’re not passing.”
Junior Janelle Gabrielsen on the balanced offensive attack: “I can go to any hitter, trust any hitter and they can put the ball away and it is nice to reverse the flow and do whatever I want out there pretty much. We’re getting good hits and kills.”
Senior Allison Wack on the 17-0 run in the first set: “It was great. It was great for momentum going into the next game too. It kind of back and forth at the beginning of that first game and then it really took us ahead to get rolling to try some different things. I think once we had a little bit of padding we were running some cross plays and just doing a lot of plays we haven’t done in quite awhile.”
Freshman Julie Mikaelsen on the large crowd: “For me it’s really cool because I’m used to having maybe 50 people watching our games in Norway. So for me to have that many people watching, that’s awesome.”
On adjusting to the states: “In the beginning, I was pretty nervous because of everything – the language and all of the people watching and I’m not used to this. But I’m getting there.”
