Know a Newcomer: Tyler Zeman

Get to know a little bit more about 6-foot-2 freshman Tyler Zeman. This Hartland, Wis. native was an All-Conference runner for Arrowhead High School, helping his team win a state championship as a junior. Zeman excels in the classroom as well, becoming a two-time Academic All-State honoree. He is one of four newcomers for the Wisconsin men in 2010.
What is your nickname?
TAZMAN
What is your best talent outside of XC?
I couldn't handle life without a piano.
What did you do this past summer?
I ran and worked almost double full time each week.
What is your favorite thing about Madison?
People watching on State Street and game day.
What is your favorite class at UW so far and what class are you most excited for?
Calculus because math keeps me relaxed, but I cannot wait to take on philosophy classes.
What do you feel is your greatest accomplishment in Cross Country so far?
Making it to state all four years in high school, and becoming a Badger.
What are your expectations for this upcoming season?
No one should beat the Badgers in their own home at the Big Ten Championships... After that who knows?
What is something you feel you want to improve on for this season?
Being able to run harder and longer.
What do you like most about Coach Mick Byrne's coaching style?
Fairness to all and honesty no matter what.
Is there anyone that inspired you to run, or that you consider to be a hero of yours?
My parents. My mom has run too many marathons to keep track of.
10 years from now, how do you picture yourself and what do you hope to have achieved?
I picture myself successful at achieving anything I set my mind to.
