Madison, Wis. - UW hosts the 54-hole Badger Invitational Sun.-Mon., Sept. 26-27, at the par 72, 6,205-yard University Ridge Golf Course. The tournament begins with 36 holes Sunday in a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. CT. Pairings for the final 18 holes on Monday will be determined by score. Monday’s shotgun start will be at 8 a.m. CT. The low four individual scores will determine the team score for each round.
The 11 teams participating include Augusta State, Bradley, Bucknell, Drake, Georgetown, Iowa, North Dakota State, Southern Methodist, Texas-El Paso, Wisconsin and Xavier.
In the last Badger Invitational held in 2008, then-freshman Jessie Gerry set the Badger Invitational 54-hole record when she won the event with a 71-66-78--215 in 2008. California won the tournament with UW placing second. Gerry, who missed the first tournament of this season due to a hand injury, is in the lineup this weekend.
Also in the lineup is senior Carlie Werwie (Kenosha, Wis.), sophomore Lindsay Danileson (Osceola, Wis.); sophomore Alyssa Elliott (Madison, Wis.); and freshman Kris Yoo (Schaumburg, Ill.). Playing as individuals are redshirt freshman Alexis Nelson (Mason, Ohio) and Ellie Arkin (Reedsburg, Wis.).
Wisconsin is coming off one of the most successful seasons in school history. Last year the Badgers set the top three team 18-hole marks with a new record of 284 at the Challenge at Onion Creek in Austin, Texas, on 11/2/09. The school 54-hole team record was set at Onion Creek with an 870. The team 18-hole average last year was also a new record by six strokes with 302.93 per round. The previous record was 308.37 set in 2007-08.
Gerry is the top returning scorer having averaged 72.28 strokes per round last year. Werwie averaged 76.55 and Elliott averaged 76.68. Danileson averaged 79.23 strokes per round as a freshman.
The Badgers opened the season Sept. 12-14 by placing ninth of 21 teams at the Cougar Classic hosted by the College of Charleston in Charleson, S.C. UW shot a 303-302-292--897 and was led by sophomore Lindsay Danielson, who tied for 17th with a 4-over-par and career best 74-75-71--220.
The first Badger travel squad was comprised of freshman Kris Yoo (228); sophomores Lindsay Danielson (220) and Alyssa Elliott (233); junior Ellie Arkin (229) and senior Carlie Werwie (224).
The Badger Invitational has been held 16 times over the years at four different courses. Wisconsin has won the tournament just once in 1983.
