Madison, Wis. -- The Big Ten Quad Duals wrapped up Saturday afternoon, marking the end of the dual meet season for the Wisconsin men’s swimmers and divers.
Despite a variety of successful individual performances, the Badgers were not able to pick up a win in the event, losing to No. 23 Purdue, 231-116, and No. 15 Minnesota, 222-166.
The Badgers recorded two more first-place finishes on Saturday, giving them five wins total over the two days in West Lafayette, Ind.
The first of Saturday’s victories went to sophomore Sam Rowan, who used his second best time of the season to finish first in the 400-yard individual medley at 3:57.87.
Dan Lester recorded the other first place finish for Wisconsin by taking first in the 100-yard butterfly in an NCAA ‘B’ qualifying time of 48.15. The win gives Lester six ‘B’ times in the event, and 12 total ‘B’ times this season.
Michael Weiss was strong as well as he used a time of 3:59.93 to take second in the 400-yard individual medley.
Badger swimmers were best represented in the 200-yard backstroke, as UW took four of the top six spots. Jesse Stipek led the way for Wisconsin in the event as his time of 1:50.62 was fast enough to take third place.
Rowan (1:51.24), Garrett Mulchrone (1:52.22), and Austin Cox (1:53.37) were the other Badgers to place in the event, finishing fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively. Rowan’s time served as a personal season-best in the event.
Wes Lagerhausen was able to post his third-fastest time of the season in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing fifth in a time of 45.94, mere tenths of a second off his season-best time (45.54).
The Wisconsin ‘A’ relay teams were very competitive on the day, nearly setting season-bests in both of the relay events.
The fifth place 200-yard freestyle relay team of Lagerhausen, Tariq Miller, Matt Pircon, and Kyle Thompson touched the wall in 1:23.98, just behind their previous best of 1:23.67.
The 400-yard freestyle relay team also posted their second-fastest time of the season, as Lester, Weiss, Miller, and Lagerhausen combined to finish third in 3:02.94.
