NORMAN, Okla. – The Wisconsin women’s golf team stands in sixth place in the 17-team field with a 9-over par 297 after one round at the 54-hole Susie Berning Maxwell Classic in Norman, Okla. The Badgers sit 13 shots behind the leader Florida State with its opening 4-under par 284.
Texas A&M sits four strokes off FSU even at 288. New Mexico and Texas Tech both shot a 1-over 289 and are tied for third through one round. Oklahoma, at 5-over, finished four shots ahead of the Badgers.
Sophomore Kris Yoo led the Badgers and finished the day in a tie for third place after shooting a 2-under, 70—one shot off her career best round. Yoo’s career-best tournament performance was a seventh place finish at last year’s Big Ten Championships.
Senior Jessie Gerry joined Yoo in breaking the top-20 in the first round, turning in a 1-over par 73, good for 17th place. Junior Lindsay Danielson is one shot behind Gerry, tied for 22nd.
Freshman Aaren Ziegler, in her first collegiate road tournament, sits in a tie for 73rd, having shot an 8-over 80, while fellow freshman Kimberly Dinh finished the day 12-over, in 87th place.
The No. 22-ranked golfer in the country, Kimberly Kaufman of Texas Tech, and Kennesaw State’s Ket Preamchuen, are tied atop the individual leader board through 18 holes, both shooting a 4-under 68. Behind Kaufman and Preamchuen sit six others tied for third place, including Yoo.
