MADISON, Wis. -- Behind a dominant effort across the board, the Wisconsin volleyball team swept Iowa on Sunday afternoon in the UW Field House. The Badgers beat the Hawkeyes 25-16, 25-22, 25-21 to improve to 12-8 overall and 4-4 in the Big Ten.

Freshman Ellen Chapman led Wisconsin with 10 kills for the third match in a row, while classmates Courtney Thomas and Crystal Graff each addee nine. Tiffany Nilges led all players with 11 kills for Iowa. Thomas also hit .500 (nine kills - one error - 16 attempts) to lead all players individually.
The Badgers hit .287 (47-14-115) as a team while keeping Iowa (11-10, 1-7) to a .179 (36-15-117) overall mark. The 14 total errors is a new conference-season low for UW.
Wisconsin also outblocked the Hawkeyes 8.0-4.0 led by junior Alexis Mitchell and sophomore Dominique Thompson, who had four stuffs apiece. Thompson had two solo blocks, the only ones for either team in the match.
UW outdug Iowa 57-51 behind Thomas' 14 saves and sophomore Annemarie Hickey's 11. Nilges also had 14 digs for Iowa. Thomas just missed her second career triple-double as she put up a team-high 23 assists to go along with her 14 digs and nine kills.
Wisconsin jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the first set before Iowa went on a 4-0 run to tie the score. The Badgers were able to pull away by capitalizing on five Hawkeye attack errors while only committing two of their own. Leading 14-13, Wisconsin used an 11-3 run to win the first set 25-16.
The Badgers continued that momentum into the second set, going up 6-2 before Iowa used a 6-0 run to obtain its first lead of the match at 8-6. Wisconsin reclaimed the lead at 14-13, thanks to back-to-back kills from Graff. UW led 23-17 before Iowa rallied, scoring five straight, pulling within one (23-22) but a Hawkeye hitting error and kill from Mitchell gave Wisconsin the second frame.
Both squads came out roaring in the third set, tying the score for the first nine points of the frame. Iowa eventually broke the tie with a 6-2 run to take a 15-11 lead. Wisconsin rallied to trail by only one point (16-15) but didn't tie the score again until 19. The Badgers went on a 6-2 run, including five unanswered points at the end of the set to win.
Wisconsin completes its three-match home stand with a Border Battle match against No. 14 Minnesota on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the UW Field House.
