ANN ARBOR, Mich.--For the second time in less than a week, it came down to one goal as the Wisconsin men's soccer team fell to Penn State, 1-0, in semifinal action at the Big Ten Tournament.
With the loss, the Badgers fall to 10-8-2, while Penn State (9-8-4) continues its improbable run through tournament play.
The Nittany Lions netted the game's only goal at the 28:54 mark when Minh Vu and Owen Griffith exchanged passes on the right side of the field before Vu's shot beat UW goalie Max Jentsch.
Penn State continued to pressure the Badgers, but UW's defense held strong. The Nittany Lions finished the game with 21 shots to the Badgers' five. Wisconsin failed to put a shot on goal, while six PSU shots found the frame.
Jentsch allowed one goal, while recording five saves in 90 minutes of action. Penn State's Andrew Wolverton netted his 12th shutout of the season and ninth win.
The Badgers' post-season fate will be determined on Monday evening, when the 48-team NCAA tournament field is announced.
The winner of the Big Ten Tournament earns an automatic bid, while the Badgers hope for a coveted at-large invitation.
