MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin volleyball team had its season come to an end on Friday night with a loss to No. 8 Purdue in front of 4,232 fans at the UW Field House.
The Boilermakers swept the Badgers 25-11, 25-22, 25-19 on senior night for co-captains Janelle Gabrielsen and Elle Ohlander. Wisconsin finishes the season with a 16-16 overall record and an 8-12 mark in the Big Ten Conference, tying for eighth place.

Freshmen Ellen Chapman and Courtney Thomas led the Badgers offensively with nine and seven kills, respectively, while junior Alexis Mitchell added six putaways. Purdue’s Ariel Turner, the Big Ten's leader in kills per set, led all players with 18 kills.
The eighth-ranked Boilermakers (27-4, 16-4) hit .324 (44 kills – 10 errors – 105 attempts) in the match while keeping the Badgers to a .124 (36-22-13) mark. Purdue outblocked UW 7 to 5.5.
Gabrielsen finished with a team-high 16 assists and 11 digs for another double-double in her last match as a Badger. Sophomore Annemarie Hickey, the conference's leader in digs per set, had a match-high 18 saves. Emily Ehlers added 13 digs for Purdue.
Chapman got the first set started on a high note for the Badgers with a block solo. After both teams tied the first three points of the set, Purdue put together an 8-0 run, including back-to-back kills from Tiffany Fisher, to take a dominating lead at 11-3. Wisconsin got within seven points of the lead at 16-9 before Turner scored on two straight kills as part of a 9-2 Purdue run that gave the Boilermakers the set win. The Badgers set a season low, scoring only 11 points in the first set, as Purdue held UW to a .000 hitting percentage.
Wisconsin got off to a stronger start in the second set despite falling behind 12-8. The Badgers put together their first 3-0 run of the match to cut Purdue's lead to 12-11 before the Boilermakers responded with five-straight points to take the lead at 16-12. Wisconsin strung together a 5-1 run to tie the set at 18 and rallied to tie the next two points, keeping the set close. The Badgers trailed by one point at 23-22 before Purdue scored the last two points of the set to win.
The Badgers got off to a 2-0 start in the third set and kept their lead until Purdue went on a 7-0 run to take the lead at 11-7. Wisconsin went on a 3-0 run, cutting Purdue's lead to 14-13 before the Boilermakers responded with three straight points to go up 17-13. Despite trailing by seven points late in the set, the Badgers kept fighting, forcing two extra match points before a kill from Purdue's Kierra Jones secured the match win for the eighth-ranked Boilermakers.
Wisconsin, which will not qualify for the NCAA tournament after failing to finish with an overall record above .500, returns five starters plus its libero and 15 letterwinners next season.
