MADISON, Wis. -- The noticeable progress on the construction on La Bahn Arena is remarkable over the past couple of weeks. The arena is literally taking shape as the exterior walls and the roof are being installed.
The final footprint of the arena is much more visible with the current developments.
On the east side of the facility, nearest Gate B of the Kohl Center, the mechanical room roof is complete, while the air barrier is being installed so construction on the HVAC equipment can continue.
The more obvious progress has taken place on the south and west ends of the facility where the exterior walls have been put in place and are nearly complete, and where the long span trusses for the roof of the arena have been completed.
In that same area of the arena, masonry wall in the Zamboni storage area and other behind-the-scenes rooms are also finished.
On the north side of the arena, long-span truss installation continues, while masonry walls for the visiting team locker room and other mechanical rooms are worked on.
The La Bahn Arena construction crew, led by Findorff, is one group excited this winter by the lack of snow thus far this year.
“Mother Nature is continuing to cooperate with the construction of the La Bahn Arena,” said Senior Project Manager Bob Hougard. “As the holiday season is coming up and the snow will soon be in the forecast, the construction project is concentrating on getting the roofs of the new Arena installed to help keep out the snow.”
In the coming weeks, the east portion of the building, that closest to Gate B of the Kohl Center, will see exterior stud work and precast walls going up until the east side is closed. Fireproofing will take place so duct work and piping for the women’s hockey offices and swim lounge can continue.
The ramp leading down into the bowl on the north side of the facility will be eliminated and the final concrete foundation wall at the north side of the Arena will go in. Once that happens, the last concrete deck for the main concourse floor will be poured, and the last part of the main facility structure of the arena will then go in as well.
