AUSTIN, Texas -- Wisconsin pitcher Meghan McIntosh needed no time to bounce back from her 15-1 loss to Texas, and neither did the rest of her team.

The Badgers (2-1) showed that patience is a virtue by drawing 10 walks, one off the school record, and capitalizing on three Colorado State errors to breeze past the Rams (2-4), 5-1.

 Fast Facts
• Badgers finish with 10 walks, one off school record
• McIntosh hurls complete game with five strikeouts
• Powell's two-run home run provides winning margin

With the win, Wisconsin improves to 2-1 on the season, the team's best start to a season since beginning 2007 with three straight wins. Wisconsin is also above a .500 winning percentage for the first time since starting the 2008 season with a 5-4 record.

McIntosh was effective on Friday after getting knocked around in her first outing of the year against the 13th-ranked Longhorns on Thursday night. The sophomore matched a career high by recording five strikeouts and scattered five hits while throwing a complete game against the Rams.

Wisconsin helped McIntosh out by giving her all the support she needed in the first inning.

Karla Powell connected on a two-run home run in the first inning, bringing home Jennifer Krueger, to go up 2-0.

The Rams threatened the Badgers for a moment in the bottom of the first, as pinch runner Kendall Butterfield stole second. However, Brittany Palish's line drive on McIntosh's next pitch was caught by shortstop Stephanie Peace to end the threat.

The Badgers tacked on another run in the bottom of the second.

Colorado State's  Kelsey Jo O'Brien led off the inning by giving up back-to-back walks, one to Peace and another to Ashley Hanewich. Dana Rasmussen was up next and put down a bunt, but all UW runners remained safe after Rasmussen reached on a fielder's choice. Freshman Mary Massei then drew a bases loaded-walk to push across another UW run and give the Badgers a lead at 3-0.

Colorado State recorded its lone run in the top of the fourth with an RBI single, but Wisconsin answered right back thanks to a Rams' error to keep it a three-run advantage.

In the bottom of the fourth, Massei walked, stole second and then moved to third on a throwing error, recording her first stolen base of her career in the process. One batter later, Jennifer Krueger reached base and stole second, but Massei was caught in a rundown and was tagged out at home. Krueger advanced to third on the play and Shannel Blackshear followed with a sharp grounder to third. Colorado State third baseman Ashley Macqueen airmailed the throw to first, letting Krueger score from third.

Colorado State tried to answer back at the top of the fifth, as Palish led off with a double. Brianna Donahue then recorded a single to Ashley Hanewich in right field and Colorado State tried to test Hanewich's arm. Hanewich rose to the challenge and gunned down Palish at the plate to prevent a run from scoring.

The Rams later put runners on second and third in the inning, but Lyssa Roberts grounded back to McIntosh to end the threat.

The final run for UW was scored in the bottom of the sixth. Massei was on third as Krueger used her speed to get an infield single. A wild throw from the Rams' relief pitcher, Desiree Laswell, enabled Krueger to take second and allowed Massei to score from third, giving UW the 5-1 lead.

Wisconsin returns to tournament play on Saturday with an 11 a.m. matchup against Missouri State. The Badgers then play Missouri State again at 4 p.m. in the semifinals of the tournament.
