MADISON, Wis. -- A busy slate of weekend meets on the West Coast offered the Wisconsin women’s track and field team multiple chances to compete.
It also gave Egle Staisiunaite multiple chances to impress.
The senior posted a pair of strong runs in both the 100-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles, putting together solid runs on back-to-back days.
Staisiunaite improved her Big Ten Conference-leading mark in the 400-meter hurdles with a winning time of 58.94 seconds Saturday at the Beach Invitational in Norwalk, Calif. That came on the heels of her run of 1:01.17 in the event Friday at the Mt. SAC Relays.
The Saturday run boosted Staisiunaite to 15th among athletes in the NCAA West Region.
In addition to her showing in the 400 hurdles Saturday, Staisiunaite improved her season-best mark in the 100-meter hurdles to 13.81 en route to a second-place finish at the Beach Invitational – despite running into a headwind.
Friday at Mt. SAC, Staisinuaite clocked in at 13.82 to take sixth in the sprint race.
Freshman Deanna Latham faced a similar headwind in the 100 hurdles Saturday and ran a time of 14.22 to finish eighth. In the 400 hurdles, Carrie Edmunds clocked in at 1:04.64 to finish 18th behind Staisiunaite.

Saturday’s performance followed her outdoor personal-best run of 24.43 seconds to take fourth place – second among collegians – in the event Friday at the Bryan Clay Invitational.
DeCoster also was the fastest collegiate in the 100 meters field Friday, finishing sixth overall in 11.96 – just one hundredth of a second off her career-best time of 11.95.
Teammate Katie Duchow also raced in the 200 Saturday at the Beach Invitational and finished 13th in 24.78.
Brittney Harper, who ran to a time of 2:11.69 in an 800 meters race at the Mt. SAC Relays on Friday, went back down to the 400 meters on Saturday and clocked in at a season-best 56.11 to take 10th place.
Senior Karlye Wolff also enjoyed a strong Friday at Mt. SAC, racing to a personal-best time of 10:34.50 to claim 14th place in the Olympic Development section of the 3,000-meter steeplechase. The performance boosted Wolff to sixth in the Big Ten this season -- and also ranks her No. 5 all-time at Wisconsin.
