Former UW head coach Jim Schuman won his third Wisconsin PGA Match Play title May 19 at the The Club at Strawberry Creek in Kenosha, Wis. Schuman, who announced his resignation as UW head coach in April after eight years, beat Brian Janty 3 & 2 on the 16th hole.
For Schuman, who is starting a golf academy in Madison, it was another major competitive title. He won the match play tournament in 2001 and 2002, and was the three-time WPGA Professional Stroke Play Champion in 2001, 2002 and 2005.
Schuman hopes to continue his competitive experience on the PGA circuit and believes starting the golf academy is the way to provide more time.He said of his experience, "I had an opportunity to get out and play. Starting up the academy, prior to that going up, and I'm excited to do that. Gives me a chance to get out and practice and play a little bit. We'll see what happens."
