CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Wisconsin women's golf team stumbled out of the gates at the Cougar Classic Sunday in Charleston, S.C., finishing the first round of their 2011 fall season 20 shots over par. The team's score of 308 has the Badgers in 20th place with two rounds to play.
LSU leads the field of 22 with an eight-under 280, while Florida stands in second place, four strokes behind the leader with a 284. Defending tournament champion North Carolina rounds out the top three with a three-under 285.
Junior Lindsay Danielson led the Badgers Sunday with a three-over 75, good for 47th place in the tournament. Fellow junior Alyssa Elliott turned in the second best score for Wisconsin with a 4-over 76, putting her in 60th place after one round.
Senior Jessie Gerry shot a six-over 78 for Wisconsin, while sophomore Kris Yoo followed one stroke behind with a 79. Senior Ellie Arkin rounded out the Badgers scoring with a 13-over 85 Sunday.
Wisconsin combined for nine birdies in the first round, but also turned in 30 bogeys and five double bogeys.
Tennessee Lady Volunteer, Junior Erica Popson, led the field as an individual with a six-under 66, while three other players finished Sunday tied for second.
