Badgers maintain position at Cougar Classic

CHARLESTON, S.C.— The Wisconsin women’s golf team maintained its position in 20th place at the Cougar Classic Monday, turning in a +27 performance in the second round of the 54-hole tournament. The Badgers carded a 308-315--623 in Charleston with one round to play.
Senior Jessie Gerry turned in the top performance for Wisconsin Monday with a 3-over-par 75. Her two round total of 9-over 78-75= 153 is currently the second best for the Badgers, landing her in a tie for 69th overall.
Junior Lindsay Danielson continued to lead the Badgers after 36-holes, turning in a five-over 77, for a two-round score of 8-over- par 75-77=152. That scored dropped Danielson from a tie for 47th place after round one to a tie for 65th.
Sophomore Kris Yoo matched Danielson’s score of 5-over today, improving two shots over her first round performance. Her two round total of 12 over (79-76-156) has moved Yoo up five spots into a tie for 87th place.
Junior Alyssa Elliott stands in 106th place after two rounds (76-86=112) with a tournament total 18-over, while redshirt senior Ellie Arkin turned in a 16-over par performance Monday, bringing her to a two round total of 29-over (85-88=173). Arkin currently stands in 117th place.
Meanwhile, defending tournament champion North Carolina surged into first place overall Monday, shooting 6-under in the second round. The Tar Heels are now 9-under for the tournament (285-282=567), one shot ahead of Florida (284-284=568). LSU suffered a tough second round, shooting 3-over-par to fall to third place at 5-under (280-291=571).
And with a 3-under par performance Monday and 8-under par (66-69-135) for the tournament, junior Lady Volunteer Erica Popson maintained her overall lead (66-69-135). Sophomore Austin Ernst of LSU sits one shot off the lead.
The final round of the Cougar Class tees off at 8 a.m. (CT) Tuesday.
