MADISON, Wis.-- The Wisconsin women's golf team continues its fall season by playing host to the Badger Invitational Sunday-Monday, Sept. 25-26, at University Ridge Golf Course. Wisconsin won the Badger Invitational last season.
The eight-team field will participate in a 54-hole invitational to be played on the par 72, 6,205-yard University Ridge course. Playing in threesomes, the teams will play 36 holes Sunday in a shotgun format starting at 8:30 a.m. CT. Pairings for the final 18 holes on Monday will be determined by score. Monday's shotgun start will be at 8 a.m. CT. The low four individual scores will determine the team score for each round.
The nine teams participating include Bucknell, Delaware, Drake, Georgetown, Illinois-Chicago, Illinois State, North Dakota State, Southern Methodist and Wisconsin.
Last year, the Badgers tied a tournament scoring record by turning in a 282-300-297=879. Additionally, the team's 18-hole score of 282 was both a tournament best as well as a program record for Wisconsin. The team's 54-hole score of 582 was also a Badger Invitational record.
Now-graduated Carly Werwie won the individual tournament title for Wisconsin last year with a school and tournament 54-hole record 71-69-73=213. Fellow Badger and current junior Lindsay Danielson finished tied for 5th with a 68-76-74=218.
Junior Alyssa Elliott finished tied for 15th at the tournament last year, posting a 73-75-77=225, while senior Jessie Gerry finished two strokes behind, turning in a 70-81-76=227, good for 18th place. Sophomore Kris Yoo finished 19th, with a 74-80-74=228.
Senior Ellie Arkin, playing last year in the Badger Invitational as an individual, finished tied for 34th, with a 74-80-74=228.
Most of the Badgers will be competing this coming weekend, with Wisconsin fielding two squads: team a and team b.
Southern Methodist, Georgetown, North Dakota State and Drake all competed in last year's Badger Invitational, with Southern Methodist finishing best, at 5th place. Wisconsin is the only team competing in the 2011 field to have previously won the tournament.
