Player of the Game
Junior Taylor Wurtz scored a game-high 21 points, her fourth 20-plus point performance of the season. The 6-0 guard was 7-of-13 (53.8 percent) from the field, including 2-of-6 (33.3 percent) from 3-point range. Wurtz was 5-of-6 (83.3 percent) from the line, including 4-of-5 in the second half. She also added seven rebounds, two assists and one steal in 36 minutes of play.

Play of the Game
With the score tied at 47 with 5:53 to play, sophomore Morgan Paige drove the lane to score and stop a 16-0 run by the Wolverines. Michigan coach Kevin Borseth called the play the "layup that broke our back." Wisconsin led 49-47 on the drive but Michigan came back to tie the score at 49 and again at 51.

Turning Point
After the third tie of the game at 51-51 with 3:54 to play, Wisconsin went on 7-1 run to take a 58-52 lead with 1:37 remaining. The Wolverines were forced to foul, sending the Badgers to the line where they were 6-of-7 from the line in the final 51 seconds.

Stat of the Game
The Badgers shot a season-best 90.9 percent (10-of-11) from the free throw line. Taylor Wurtz was 5-of-6 from the line while Jade Davis (2-of-2), Jacki Gulczynski (2-of-2) and Cassie Rochel (1-of-1) all contributed.  

Notables

  • Tonight's win keeps Wisconsin in a three-way tie for seventh place in the Big Ten standings at 4-5, only one game out of fifth place.

  • Wisconsin held Michigan to just 16 points in the first half, an opponent season low. The Wolverines 16 first-half point was also their lowest point total for a half this season.

  • Michigan took an opponent season-high 25 3-points attempts, making six.

  • The Wolverines have dropped their last two games, their first two-game losing streak of the season.

  • Senior Anya Covington earned career point No. 600 against Michigan tonight after scoring six points. She now has 605 points in her career.

  • Senior Jade Davis tied her season-high with 13 points on 4-of-8 (50 percent) shooting. She was 3-of-5 (60 percent) from behind the arc, including a key 3-pointer with 2:24 remaining to put the Badgers up 56-52.

  • Wisconsin outrebounded its third-straight opponent and its sixth in the last seven games. The Badgers finished with a 35-32 advantage over the Wolverines.

  • For the first time in four games, the Badgers were called for fewer fouls than their opponent. UW had just 14 fouls while the Wolverines were called for 16 fouls.
