The Badgers kicked off the game with a bang, scoring three runs in the first inning on a home run by Spence.
Nevada responded with a pair of hits in the first inning to load the bases, but a ground out induced by Najdek resulted in a double play, allowing the Badgers to end the inning unscathed.
Wisconsin’s bats quieted down, but Najdek went to work, recording nine grounds outs, two strike outs and one line out to retire 12-straight Nevada batters over the next four innings.
Spence’s second home run to dead center field in the fifth inning put Wisconsin up 5-0 and the Badgers scored a pair of runs in the sixth to take a 7-0 lead.
Nevada drew a walk to lead off the bottom of the sixth and a triple by Lauren Lastrapes scored the runner, but the Wolf Pack was no match for the Badgers.
Najdek pitched all seven innings to earn her second win of the season. The sophomore right-hander held Nevada to just the one run on three hits.
Spence went 3-for-3 from the plate, recording one single and a walk in addition to her two home runs. The junior designated player picked up four of UW’s seven RBI and scored two runs. A pinch hit sacrifice fly by Karla Powell scored UW’s fifth run. Shannel Blackshear knocked in two of Wisconsin’s runs, going 1-for-3.
The Badgers travel west again next week, heading to the Gaucho Classic II in Santa Barbara, Calif., Mar. 16-18.
