MADISON, Wis. – Three former Wisconsin women’s hockey student-athletes were selected in the third annual Canadian Women’s Hockey League draft on Wednesday.
Seniors in 2011-12, Brittany Haverstock, Hilary Knight and Carolyne Prévost will be playing alongside eight other former UW women’s hockey players this upcoming season in the CWHL.
Knight was the third-overall pick in the 2012-13 CWHL draft, taken by the Boston Blades. Joining the only American team in the CWHL, Knight will be among familiar faces as eight other U.S. Women’s National Team players are currently on the Boston roster, including former teammates Meghan Duggan and Erika Lawler.
Prévost was taken by the Montreal Stars in the third round. The defending Clarkson Cup champions, Montreal features four Canadian Women’s National Team members and one U.S. Women’s National Team member. Prévost will be the first Badger to play for Montreal.
Haverstock was selected by Alberta in the third round and will join former Badgers Meaghan Mikkelson, Bobbi-Jo Slusar and Meghan Hunter.
With three selections in this year’s draft, there have now been a total of eight UW players drafted by CWHL teams. Each team will hold a camp later this summer in order to finalize its roster for the upcoming season.
