
Women's golf opens with a 301 at NCAA Championships

ATHENS, Ga. -- Wisconsin shot a 13-over par 301 and is in a two-way tie for 20th after the first round of the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship in Athens, Ga. Three strokes separate 10 teams which are between 12th and 20th place. The 72-hole, 24-team tournament continues with 18 holes daily through May 24.
No. 1 Southern Cal made a push in the final holes to tie No. 48-ranked San Jose State at 4-under par 284. SJSU's Regan De Guzman shot a 5-under par career-best 67 in the opener. No. 3 Duke is third at 2-under 286.
All five Badgers broke 80 led by sophomore Kimberly Dinh who is tied for 33rd with a 1-over par 73 on the par 72, 6,372-yard University of Georgia course. Also contributing to team scoring were Kris Yoo at 3-over 75, Aaren Ziegler at 4-over 76 and Alexis Nelson at 5-over 77. Senior Lindsay Danielson had a 79.
This is just the second trip to the national championship for the Badger program and the first since 2003 when the team finished 24th with a 1291. UW is one of four Big Ten Conference programs competing. Purdue is tied for fifth at 1-over par. Big co-champions Michigan State and Northwestern are tied for 12th at 10-over 298.
The team is paired with Oregon and UCLA and will tee off tomorrow at 10:53 a.m. ET. Follow live scoring at golfstatresults.com.
