EAST LANSING, Mich. -- A goal in the second minute by Matej Radonic kicked off an energetic start for the Wisconsin men's soccer team, but the second half proved a different story, as No. 19 Michigan State scored twice and rallied to earn a 2-1 win at DeMartin Stadium on Saturday.

The Badgers (2-8-1, 0-4-0 Big Ten) held a 1-0 lead heading into halftime, but shortly out of the break a penalty kick helped the Spartans (7-2-2, 2-1-1 Big Ten) tie the game, then MSU scored again just minutes later and took the lead for good.

"We battled hard today and I thought we did some tremendous stuff," UW head coach John Trask said. "We also never gave up. I'm pleased with the progress of this team. Our captains have also done a tremendous job keeping this group together.

"The easiest thing right now is for this group to bail and that's not the case. I'm pleased with where we're going."

 Fast Facts
• Radonic scores first-career goal in the 2nd minute
• Remeniuk ties career-high with five saves
• Pair of scores in second half help MSU rally for win

Freshman goalkeeper Adrian Remeniuk tied a career high with five saves on the day, but allowed two scores and fell to 2-5-0 on the season. Four of his five saves came in the second half.

Offensively, four different Badgers finished with shots on goal, including freshmen Tom Barlow, Mike Catalano and Mark Segbers.

"You're never happy to lose and we're not alright with accepting it, but at the same time we also have to be realistic," Trask said. "This team is starting to play Wisconsin soccer and to the level that I know they're capable of."

Always a tough road trip, Wisconsin has not won at DeMartin Stadium since 2004 and has not left East Lansing with at least one point since 2006.

"Compliment to Michigan State, their staff and players. They're a very well-coached team," Trask added. "This is a battle-tested, NCAA team with a lot of maturity. This is also not an easy place to come in and win. That ended up being the difference today."

The Badgers struck first with their fastest goal of the season, as Matej Radonic scored just one minute, thirty-five seconds into the game and gave Wisconsin a 1-0 lead. Taking an assist from Segbers, Radonic finished off the cross with a header in the box for his first-career goal.

The assist was the third of the season for Segbers and also marked his team-leading 11th point. The freshman forward from St. Louis, Missouri, recorded his second assist in as many games after also tallying a helper earlier in the week during the Badgers' 1-0 win over Green Bay.

Fresh out of the halftime break, Michigan State came up with the equalizer, as Zach Carroll capitalized on a penalty kick and evened the score at 1-1 in the 50th minute.

Adam Montague helped the Spartans quickly follow up with another goal in the 54th minute, which completed the comeback for MSU.

The Spartans recorded 13 shots in the second half alone and went on to outshoot the Badgers 17-8. MSU also claimed the advantage in corner kicks, 7-2.

Concluding its brief one-game road trip, Wisconsin returns home to face Loyola Chicago on Oct. 15 for a 7 p.m. (CT) kickoff at the McClimon Complex.
