Badgers hosting winter camps beginning in November

MADISON, Wis. -- The University of Wisconsin men’s soccer team will host its annual Winter Camps beginning in November, as participants will have the opportunity to take part in training sessions that mirror the atmosphere and intensity of a collegiate soccer environment.
Campers will also have the chance to learn from UW players and coaches, including former Major League Soccer and United States National Team assistant coach, and current Wisconsin head coach, John Trask, in an organized and energy-filled environment.
The three-camp lineup includes the Winter Academy, Winter College ID Clinic and the Holiday Camp. All camps will be held in the McClain Center on the Camp Randall Stadium grounds.
The camp season kicks off with the Winter Academy, which begins on Tues., Nov. 18 and runs through the April 14. This year, the Winter Academy will include more weeks of instruction, with camp dates spread out on Tuesdays among the six-month period. Due to McClain Center scheduling additional Wednesday and Thursday evening sessions will also be posted.
Two separate Winter Academy sessions will be held, one for boys ages 5-11 years old (7-8:15 p.m.) and another for those between the ages of 12-18 (8:15-9:30 p.m.).
Along with training sessions led by Trask, campers will be taught and trained with specific technical instruction that includes improving dribbling, passing and shooting, as well as development in the areas that will help aid the camper in becoming a total player.
The Winter College ID camp will be held Jan. 9-10, 2015, and consists of training that more closely resembles the type of challenging environment the UW players are accustomed to during the season. With that in mind, the camp is designed specifically for players and prospects who are looking to gain a better idea of the demands of Division I soccer.
The Winter ID camp is open to all boys in grades 8-12, as well as junior college student-athletes. Registration closes Jan. 1.
The camp includes six training sessions over the two-day span, beginning at 5 p.m. on Fri., Jan. 9. College coaches from Milwaukee, Green Bay, Marquette, Cal Poly, Missouri-St. Louis, UW-Parkside and Wisconsin, among others, will be in attendance and interacting with campers during the Winter ID camp.
Details on the Holiday Clinic, which is the third and final camp of the 2014-15 season, have yet to be determined and will be released at a later date.
