The 2013 Wisconsin adidas Invitational champions are returning to compete for the title. Last year, Northern Arizona won with a team score of 121 points. The winner of the race for Northern Arizona was Futsom Zienasellassie with the time of 23 minutes and 29 seconds. Only eight seconds behind him was teammate Matt McElroy with the time of 23:37. Both Zienasellassie and McElroy are two of the nine 2013 All-American cross country runners that will be competing on Friday.
Leading the nine 2013 All-American cross country runners is Northern Arizona's Zienasellassie who finished fourth at the 2013 NCAA Championship while his teammate McElroy finished 25th.
Other All-American runners include Arizona's Stanley Kebenei, Michigan's Marson Ferlic, Michigan State's Caleb Rhynard, Portland's Scott Fauble, Stanford's Jim Rosa, Washington's Aaron Nelson and Wisconsin's Malachy Schrobilgen. Schrobilgen, who finished 33rd at the NCAA championships last year, is the youngest All-American to compete in the Wisconsin adidas Invitational.
Wisconsin's goal is to finish in the top ten while aiming to be fifth or sixth in order to score some points for NCAA qualifications.
"We've got some cards that we have yet to play and maybe we will use them on Friday for us to show what we have in some of our younger guys," Byrne said. "I have no doubt that Malachy Schrobilgen and Michael Van Voorhis will do their job up front. We just need to figure out their supporting cast."
