Werwie advances in LPGA qualifying tournament

MADISON, Wis. -- Former Badger Carlie Werwie tied was fourth at the halfway point of the LPGA State II qualifier and finished tied for 16th to advance to the next phase after the 72-hole tournament at Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice, Fla.
The 2011 graduate shot a 1-under par 70-70-72-75--287. The top 80 scores will advance to the Stage III qualifier Dec. 7 at the LPGA International Golf Course in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Ginger Howard from the U.s. led the 191-person field with a 9-under 72-67-69-71--279. Play concluded October 3.
Werwie completed her Badger career ranked seventh in all-time scoring averaging 77.35 from 2007-11. The Kenosha, Wis., native is tied for several school records including the 54 hole mark as the winner of the 2010 Badger Invitational with a 71-69-73--213. She also is tied for the 72-hole UW record fired at the 2010 Big Ten Championship where she tied for seventh with a 74-69-77-76--296.
She was a member of UW's NCAA regional qualifying team in 2011. She posted a season scoring average of 76.80 as aenior.
