MADISON, Wis. -- Following impressive team finishes at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational, both the Wisconsin men's and women's cross country teams moved up in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Coaches Poll, the organization announced Tuesday.
The UW men's team, following a third-place showing at the adidas meet, moved up three spots to No. 6. Michael Van Voorhis and Malachy Schrobilgen each placed in the top 20 as the Badgers bested several other ranked teams competing at the meet.
The Wisconsin women, who entered the Wisconsin adidas Invitational ranked No. 15, jumped up to No. 8, marking the first time since the 2008 season that the Badgers are ranked in the top 10. Sarah Disanza paced the Badgers, finished 12th, while Molly Hanson and Emma-Lisa Murphy were 22nd and 31st, respectively.
Wisconsin is one of three schools to have both its men's and women's teams ranked in the top 10, as Oregon and Colorado also have both teams ranked in the top 10.
"It's great to see the women return to the top 10," Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Mick Byrne said. "However, we have a Big Ten Conference meet in under two weeks, and that's what I'm the most excited about for both of our teams."
The Badgers return to the course on Nov. 2 for the 2014 Big Ten Championships held at the Ashton Cross Country Course in Iowa City, Iowa. The women's 6-kilometer race is scheduled to begin at 10:45 a.m., with the men's 8-kilometer race to follow.
