MADISON, Wis. – Fresh off winning the 2014 Big Ten Tournament championship, the Wisconsin women’s soccer team earned the program’s 18th berth into the NCAA tournament on Monday, as the fourth-seeded Badgers will open the tournament hosting DePaul University in the first round on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the McClimon Complex.
Their first NCAA tournament appearance since 2012, the Badgers own a 13-16-2 all-time record in the Big Dance.
Wisconsin (18-2-2) will be tested early, as DePaul enters the tournament as one of two teams with an unbeaten record at 16-0-4. Saturday's first round match will also serve as a battle of conference tournament champions, as the Blue Demons captured the program's first BIG EAST tournament title with a 2-0 victory over Georgetown. DePaul also won their first BIG EAST regular-season crown this season.
This will mark just the second all-time meeting between Wisconsin and DePaul. The Badgers earned a 2-1 victory in Madison during the 2009 season.
Wisconsin head coach Paula Wilkins makes her 10th appearance in the NCAA tournament as a head coach and fourth with the Badgers. Wilkins has guided Wisconsin to one of the program's most successful seasons this year. The fastest group in school history to reach 10 wins this season after starting 7-0, UW's 18 wins to date are a school record.
Not only will the Badgers have the luxury of opening NCAA tournament play in Madison, they have the personnel poised to make a deep run into December. Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year Genevieve Richard and Wisconsin's formidable back line have allowed just seven goals all season defensively, while first-team All-Big Ten honorees Rose Lavelle, Kinley McNicoll and Cara Walls spark a potent offensive attack.
Advanced tickets will go on-sale Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. and can be purchased until Friday at 4:30 p.m. Tickets are available online at UWBadgers.com, over the phone by calling 1.800.GO.BADGERS or 608.262.1440, or in person at the Wisconsin Athletic Ticket Office, between the business hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults, $4 for youth/students/seniors.
