MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin women's soccer team saw five of its players named to NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region teams, as Genevieve Richard and Rose Lavelle claimed first team honors, Kinley McNicoll made second team, and Brianna Stelzer and Cara Walls were both on the third team.
Lavelle was tabbed with all-region honors for the second consecutive year, after being named to the all-region third team last season while also garnering Big Ten Freshman of the Year. An invaluable talent in the UW midfield, Lavelle followed up with yet another impressive campaign in 2014, finishing with a team-leading 10 assists and finished fourth on the team with 16 points en route to first team All-Big Ten.
After recording a school record 16 individual shutouts in 24 games, Richard joined Lavelle on the region's first team. The 2014 Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year allowed just 10 goals all season, making 76 saves and finishing with a 0.42 goals allowed average.
Lavelle and Richard are the first Badgers to earn first-team all-region honors since Alev Kelter in 2009.
McNicoll was named to the second team after finishing second on the team in points with 27 on the season. The junior midfielder played in all 24 games for the Badgers, tallying nine goals and nine assists. The Oakville, Ontario, native scored the game-winning goal in overtime that clinched the 2014 Big Ten Tournament Championship for Wisconsin. McNicoll was a first-team All-Big Ten honoree this season.
Scoring goals is something Walls has always had a knack for, and last season was no exception. The Wauwatosa native found the net 14 times for Wisconsin in 2014 and was named to the Great Lakes Region third team. The Badgers' leading goal scorer all four years of her collegiate career, Walls led UW with 28 points on her 14 goals in 2014. Six of Walls' goals were game-winners, which tied her with teammate Kodee Williams for tops in the Big Ten.
Walls joined teammates Lavelle, McNicoll and Richard on the All-Big Ten first team this season.
Stelzer was recognized on the region's third team after anchoring a UW backline that closed out a Big Ten record of 18 shutouts during the season. The Lakeville, Minnesota, native was a second-team All-Big Ten selection, after tallying three points on one goal and one assist.
