MADISON, Wis. -- The run of postseason honors continued for the Wisconsin women's soccer team, as sophomore Rose Lavelle and fifth-year senior Genevieve Richard were each named to the 2014 NSCAA/Continental Tire Women's All-America Teams on Friday.
Lavelle was named to the second team and Richard the third team, becoming the 16th and 17th All-Americans in Wisconsin history, and the first since Allison Wagner earned the distinction in 2000.
The All-America recognition for each comes on the heels of both Lavelle and Richard each being named to the NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region first team earlier this week.
Lavelle was a first team All-Big Ten honoree for the second straight season this year. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native played in all 24 games this season, starting in 23 of them, en route to tallying a team-high 10 assists to go along with three goals.
Just the second player in program history to be named Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year, Richard set a school record for individual shutouts (16) and helped the Badgers set a new Big Ten record with 18 shutouts on the season. Richard allowed just 10 goals all season, making 76 saves and finishing the year with a 0.42 goals against average.
Lavelle and Richard both were crucial in leading Wisconsin to one of the program's most successful seasons at 19-3-2 and a No. 4 seed in the 2014 NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament. After winning the 2014 Big Ten Tournament Championship, the Badgers advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament. The 19 wins by UW in 2014 were the most in program history and also set a program record for winning percentage (.869).
