MADISON, Wis. -- With the 2014-15 Wisconsin men’s hockey season fast-approaching, UWBadgers.com probes beyond what fans will see on the ice to introduce the 11 newest members of the Badgers by shedding light on their likes, dislikes and personalities.
Next up in the series is forward Matt Ustaski.
Ustaski played the past two seasons for the Langley Rivermen of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). In 2013-14, he registered 29 goals and 20 assists in 54 games to help Langley capture the regular-season title. The previous year, Ustaski posted 27 points (11 goals, 16 assists).
Before making the leap to Junior A hockey, the Glenview, Illinois, native skated one season for the Lake Forest Academy Prep team where he notched 12 goals and 27 points. Ustaski was drafted in the seventh round (192nd overall) by the Winnipeg Jets in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.
Among the tallest Badgers in the history of the program, Ustaski takes over jersey No. 27 from last year’s senior captain Frankie Simonelli. Other prominent Badgers who have worn the number during their playing careers include Cody Goloubef, Steve Reinprecht and Marc Behrend, among others.
