LONG BEACH, Calif. -- A two-time All-Big Ten selection,
Lauren Chypyhahas undoubtedly established herself as one of the Midwest's top players. This weekend in California, the senior made a nation-wide statement, advancing to the championship match of The Beach Invitational before suffering a three-set defeat.
Chypyha, ranked No. 125 in the nation, lost for just the second time this season, falling to No. 100-ranked Maeva Razaksoa of host Long Beach State, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. The 2014 Big West Conference Player of the Year, Razaksoa entered the year with a record of 59-16.
"As the match went on 'Chyps' knew how she needed to play to be successful but wasn't able to execute the game plan on a consistent basis," said head coach
Tina Samara. "At that level, all the little things make a difference."
After going 4-1 on the weekend, Chypyha's record now stands at 12-2 on the season and 78-38 for her career. Her 78 career singles wins ties her with Jill Chullino (78-53 from 1988-92) for 12th on Wisconsin's all-time wins list.
Freshman
Caroline Hall topped off her impressive weekend, bouncing back from an opening loss to win three straight matches, including a victory over Taylor Rees of Portland State, 6-0, 6-3, to claim the consolation championship. Fellow freshman,
Nathalie Joanlanne, and sophomore,
Kelsey Grambeau, also picked up a victories for the Badgers on Sunday by taking down Kelsey Frey of Portland State and Jessica Warren of Cal State Northridge, 6-4, 7-5, and 0-6, 6-1, 6-1, respectively.
On the doubles courts, the team of
Lauren Chypyha and
Sydney Riderpicked up UW's sole victory on the final day by knocking off Hannah Sulz and Cam Kincaid of Montana, 8-4.
The Badgers will conclude their fall season in two weeks as they head to Ann Arbor, Michigan, for the ITA Regionals on Thursday, October 22, 2015.

Oct. 10, 2015The Badgers continued The Beach Tennis Tournament on Saturday as
Lauren Chypyha recorded a pair of wins to reach the A flight championship match. On the day, UW went 5-4 on the singles courts and 1-2 on the doubles courts.Â

"Today I hope the team sees we have a lot of work ahead of us," head coach
Tina Samara said. "We have been pretty unsuccessful in third sets so far which needs to be addressed and corrected before the spring season. On a positive note, Lauren gutted out her third set and we look forward to her match against the host team's No. 1 player."Â
The Badgers would go just 1-4 in three-set matches on Saturday, with Chypyha picking up the lone victory.Â

Chypyha tallied her 12th and 13th victories of the season to advance to Sunday's championship match in the tournament's top flight. The senior cruised past Susie Baklini of Grand Canyon University, 6-1, 6-0, before outlasting Hayley Thompson of Long Beach State in the semifinals by a score of 7-5, 5-7, 6-2. Chypyha will face Long Beach's Maeva Razakasoa In the title match.
Freshman
Caroline Hall also had an impressive day on the singles courts in the C flight, notching a pair of wins to reach the consolation finals. On Saturday, she defeated Ana Carbo of Montana and Lana Rinaldi of Grand Canyon by the score of 6-0, 6-1 in both matches.
Sydney Rider was able to pick up a victory for UW by taking down Hanna Sulz of Montana, 7-6 (4), 6-4. But her streak would end with a difficult 2-6, 7-6, 6-3 loss to Tatum Prudhomme of Grand Canyon University.

Tina Samara said. "Obviously, playing in 100 degree weather is tough for anyone but we didn't do a great job executing the things we discussed, especially in doubles."

Lauren Burich also picked up a victory for the Badgers by defeating Tracy Dong of Portland State, 6-4, 6-2.
