Wisconsin unable find a response to a pair of OSU goals
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Despite an offensive front put forth by UW, the Wisconsin men's soccer team fell 2-0 on the road against Ohio State on Sunday afternoon at the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
Â
The Badgers (3-9-2, 1-2-2 Big Ten) battled the Buckeyes (8-4-2, 3-1-1 Big Ten) in an aggressive 90-minute game, but were unable to come back from a pair of OSU goals.
Â
Ohio State registered the first goal of the game early in the 13th minute, as Kyle Culbertson tallied his third goal of the season off of a corner kick rebound from Danny Jensen.
Â
UW fought back both offensively and defensively through the remainder of the first half, as they kept themselves in the game and held the Buckeyes' lead to only a goal. UW notched five shots in the first period, while OSU had seven.
Â
The score remained 1-0 through 20 minutes of the second half, until Ohio State's Christian Soldat found the back of the net for the Buckeyes in the 65th minute. Assists were credited to Yaw Amankwa and Jensen, as Soldat found the opportunity 10 yards out and placed the ball near post for this third goal of the season.
Â
The Badgers were unable to answer the pair of OSU goals, as the two teams fought through the second half of the game to a 2-0 final decision.
Â
Wisconsin finished the game with a total of eight shots, while Ohio State had 13. Only three Badgers recorded shots on goal during the game, as Tom Barlow, Adam Lauko, and Christopher Mueller had one each.
Â
