Junior finished fifth at Wisconsin adidas Invitational
MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin men's cross country junior Malachy Schrobilgen was named the Big Ten Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week, the Conference announced on Wednesday.
Schrobilgen placed fifth at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational, his best career finish at UW's premier home meet, crossing the 8-kilometer course in 23 minutes, 37.2 seconds. He was one of two Wisconsin runners to place in the top-10 at the adidas meet, as sophomore Morgan McDonald was 10th.
A native of Oak Park, Illinois, Schrobilgen adds this week's Big Ten Cross Country Runner of the Week award to his long list of career accolades. A two-time cross country All-American, Schrobilgen is a two-time Big Ten cross country champion, two-time Big Ten Cross Country Athlete of the Year and was the 2013 Big Ten Cross Country Freshman of the Year. On the track, Schrobilgen was a first-team All-American in the 10,000 meters last spring and won the 10,000 meters title at the 2015 Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Schrobilgen is UW's first Big Ten Cross Country Athlete of the Week since Michael Van Voorhis was honored on Oct. 19, 2013.
The Badgers return to action on Nov. 1 when they travel to Chicago to race at the Big Ten Championship.
