UW in 15th after 36 holes at Windy City Collegiate Championship

Ferrell (-1, 71) and Cheung (-2, 70) recorded sub-par rounds
Wilmette, Ill. - After a two-week break from competition, the Wisconsin women's golf team was back underway, Monday, at the 54-hole Windy City Collegiate Championship, as the Badgers went 23-over through 36 holes at Westmoreland Country Club.
UW shot a 7-over 295 in its first round before going for a 16-over 304 in Round 2, resulting in a two-round total of 599. The Badgers are in 15th, but trail Virginia Tech ( 20, 299-297=596) in 14th by just three strokes and 13th-place Minnesota ( 17, 301-292=593) by six shots.
Georgia (284-278=562) leads the tournament at 14-under, followed by host Northwestern (-12, 284-280=564) and USC (-10, 283-283=566).
Oklahoma State, which is fourth, put together the lowest 18-hole score of the day, as the Cowboys shot a 12-under 276 in the second round.
Two Wisconsin golfers posted sub-par rounds on Monday. Brooke Ferrell, who is in a tie for 24th, scored a 1-under 71 in her second round, while Michelle Cheung went 2-under during her first 18 holes. Ferrell (73-71=144) is even after 36-holes, as the junior picked up a season-low for 18 holes (-1, 71) and tied her 36-hole career-best (144). Cheung (70-75=145) is 1-over and tied for 31st. Just like her teammate, the Hong Kong native noted an 18-hole season-low (-2, 70) and tied the best 36-hole score of her career (145).
Gabby Curtis is tied for 69th after registering a 9-over 76-77=153 on Monday.
Becky Klongland had the next-best score at 13-over. She shot a 4-over 76 in Round 1 and a 9-over 81 in the second round to give her a 36-hole total of 157. Klongland is tied for 77th.
Rounding out UW's scoring was Jessica Reinecke (77-82=159). The freshman was 15-over, which put her in 80th.
The final round of the Windy City Collegiate Championship begins Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. from Holes 1 and 10.
