Eloise Healey becomes first British player to sign at Wisconsin
MADISON, Wis. -- Badger women's golf coach Todd Oehrlein announced the signing of Eloise Healey of Liverpool, United Kingdom, to attend the University of Wisconsin next fall.
Healey was a member of the English Girls' National Training Squad two years and made the England Women's Squad in 2015 where she was a member of the winning Girls Home International team and a participant in the British Girls Nations Cup tournament. She was recently named a member of the national women's team for 2016.
Badger Coach Todd Oehrlein said of the signing, "We're excited to announce that Eloise has signed an NLI and will join our golf team next fall. She will be a great addition to our team and will help us continue to grow our program.
"She brings tremendous experience and success on an international level. In addition, she is an exceptional student and was drawn to the outstanding education she'll get at Wisconsin."
Healey placed sixth in the 2015 Ladies British Open Amateur Stroke play event last summer. Also in 2015, Healey ranked sixth on the English Girls' Order of Merit and was 14th in the English Ladies Order of Merit rankings.
She was the winner of the English Schools National championship in 2014, and captained the English schools teams against Scotland and Wales.
In other tournament play, Healey won nine of 10 matches in County Match Week of Lancashire and was a member of the winning team. She tied for 10th in the Scottish Ladies Open Stroke play tournament and was the fourth position qualifier for the English Women's Match play tournament in 2015.
Healey is just the eighth international player to join the UW women's golf team in the past 40 years, and she joins two other current international team members in Michelle Cheung of Hong Kong, and Nat Zeng of Thailand. With such a young UW squad which includes no seniors, Healey will be the only women's golf signee this year.Â
