
Lindsay Wandrey named assistant women's golf coach

Pewaukee, Wis., native returns to home state
MADISON, Wis. - Lindsay Wandrey has been named assistant women's golf coach at Wisconsin, head coach Todd Oehrlein announced Friday.
A Pewaukee, Wisconsin, native, Wandrey played her collegiate golf at Western Illinois (2007-11), and served as the graduate assistant coach there two years while earning her master's degree. She most recently was the assistant coach for men's and women's golf the past three years at Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.
As a prep athlete at Brookfield Central, Wandrey led her team to four top-five finishes at the WIAA state championships. Wandrey placed second as a junior and was named to Wisconsin High School Golf Coaches Association All-State team as a junior and a senior. She earned All-Greater Metro Conference honors three times.
Her Pewaukee team won two WIAA regional championships, as well as two WIAA sectional championships. An all-around athlete, Wandrey also earned four letters as a basketball player, garnering All-Greater Metro Conference honors as a junior and a senior.
Oehrlein said, "I am thrilled to welcome Lindsay to our golf program. She has tremendous passion for coaching and I admire how hard she has worked to begin her career. I'm confident that she will do a tremendous job for us in all areas.
"As a Wisconsin native, she is passionate about the University of Wisconsin and she is excited to have the opportunity to work with our student-athletes. She has great energy and we're really excited to have her join our program."
While with the SIUE Cougars, the women's team set the scoring record in each of the last two seasons, and also set new 36-hole and 54-hole totals records. They also had the program's first NCAA Division I medalist in Alison Gorman. The men's team turned in a pair of top-five finishes during 2014-15.
In Wandrey's first season on staff with the Cougars, the men's team to a sixth-place finish at the Ohio Valley Conference championships. Freshman Jordan Peters receive recognition as a member of the Ohio Valley Conference All-Newcomer team.
As an assistant at Western Illinois, the Leathernecks earned five top-five finishes during the 2012-13 season and finished sixth in the Summit League Championships. Their opening round score of 300 was a season-low for the program.
Prior to joining the coaching staff at WIU, Wandrey earned four letters for the Leathernecks competing in 75 rounds throughout her career. She was the medalist at the 2010 Loyola Invitational with rounds of 74-76, the runner-up at the 2008 Western Illinois Fall Invitational, and earned three other top-five finishes in her career.
The 2010-11 Leathernecks had their best season in school history earning three tournament victories and three runner-up finishes during the season. Wandrey shot her career best-round of 72 at the Jackrabbit Invitational in 2011. Wandrey's top-five placing at the Summit League Championship helped the team to a runner-up finish her senior year.
Wandrey earned her bachelor's degree in business management in 2011, and earned a master's in sport management in 2013, both from Western Illinois.
