Badgers announce schedule for 2016 winter clinics
November 24, 2015 | Women's Soccer
Number of opportunities to learn from the Badgers this winter
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women's soccer team has officially opened enrollment for its various winter soccer clinics. The 2016 camp lineup includes the Winter Center of Excellence, the College ID Clinic and the Mother-Daughter Clinic.
Each clinic is open to any and all interested entrants and offers the opportunity for participants to interact with various UW coaches and players in an exciting and professional soccer setting. A great holiday gift for the soccer player in your household, all three camps will take place on the McClain Center turf inside the Camp Randall Stadium grounds.
Wisconsin women's soccer kicks off the winter camp season with its Winter Center of Excellence in January. The Winter Center of Excellence consists of two separate blocks. The first block is made up of four sessions on Wednesday nights on Jan. 13, 20, 27 and Feb. 10. The second block is also made up of four Wednesday night sessions on Feb. 17, 24, March 2 and March 9. The various Winter Center of Excellence sessions are open to participants 8-18 years old. The first group will be for 8-12 year olds and will be held from 6:45-8 p.m. (CT). The second group will be for 13-18 year olds and will be held from 8:15-9:30 p.m.
The Winter Center of Excellence provides interested players an opportunity to develop all facets of their skill set. The aim is to create an environment that focuses on a total soccer player's full spectrum of skills in a creative, fun, and innovative way. Within the four-week curriculum, the camp will focus on a new skillset every week including everything from passing through to heading and have the goal of adding to players' technical "toolbox." The intention is to create an intense environment of learning, but one that is always focused on quality vs. quantity. Sessions will be challenging with the intention of showing players the relative next level of their game! At the Winter Center of Excellence, the goal is to push players' limits and celebrate the many aspects of the game.
Similar to the Winter Center of Excellence, the College ID Clinic will be comprised of two separate sessions. The first will take place on Sunday, Jan. 24, and the second on Sunday, Feb. 21. Each session will run from 8:15 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and is open to grades 8-12.
The College ID Clinic is intended for players and prospective student-athletes who intend to play soccer at the collegiate level. This clinic will provide players with a greater understanding of the demands of a Division I women's soccer program. Campers will have an opportunity to work with the Wisconsin coaching staff, as well as be able to interact with current Wisconsin women's soccer team members. Upon completion of the clinic, a camper evaluation will be emailed out to each participant that will give the camper a better understanding of where they are with their development and what tools they will need to concentrate on before entering the college environment.
The final clinic of the winter camp lineup is the Mother-Daughter Clinic, which will take place on Saturday, March 26, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Appropriate for all skill levels, the Mother-Daughter Clinic will provide a unique opportunity for mothers and daughters to connect through the game of soccer. Participants can expect an exhilarating experience while learning passing, dribbling, ball control and balance. Wisconsin women's soccer players and coaches will be present to facilitate a relaxed learning atmosphere. The clinic will be conducted at the McClain Indoor Facility on the campus of the University of Wisconsin.
