MADISON, Wis. – Two Badgers from the Wisconsin women's soccer team were regarded among the best in the nation according to postseason honors given out by TopDrawerSoccer.com last Wednesday. Rose Lavelle was named to the Postseason Best XI First Team, while Victoria Pickett was recognized on the Postseason Freshman Best XI Second Team.
Lavelle was also listed as the fourth-best player in the nation in TopDrawerSoccer's Postseason Top 100. Pickett was ranked as the 15th-best freshman in the country in TopDrawerSoccer's Postseason Freshmen Top 100.
It was a banner year for Lavelle, Pickett and the Wisconsin women's soccer program. The duo was key in the Badgers clinching a share of their first Big Ten regular season championship since 1994.
Lavelle became the first Badger in program history to be named Big Ten Midfielder of the Year and also earned first-team All-Great Lakes Region accolades from the NSCAA. Emerging as a key leader for Wisconsin in her junior campaign, Lavelle tallied a team-leading 17 points on a team-high seven goals and three assists. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native earned first-team All-Big Ten selection for the third-straight year and was the only unanimous selection in 2015.
It didn't take long for Pickett to make an immediate impact for the Badgers in her debut season, as she went on to be recognized as Big Ten Freshman of the Year and became a Second-Team All-Big Ten honoree. The midfielder from Barrie, Ontario, started all 16 matches she played in, notching eight points on two goals and four assists in her debut season as a Badger.
