Rose Lavelle, Victoria Pickett and Brianna Stelzer garner All-Region plaudits
MADISON, Wis. – A trio of Badgers from the Wisconsin women's soccer team were recognized with All-Great Lakes Region honors, as announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) on Thursday.
Rose Lavelle was named to the All-Great Lakes Region first team, while Victoria Pickett and Brianna Stelzer each garnered third-team honors.
This marks the second straight season in which Lavelle was named to the All-Great Lakes Region first team. The midfielder from Cincinnati, Ohio, was also a third-team honoree as a freshman. After recording a team-high 17 points on seven goals and three assists this season, Lavelle was named Big Ten Midfielder of the Year and the conference's only unanimous All-Big Ten first team selection.
Earlier this week, Lavelle was announced as one of 15 semifinalists for the 2015 MAC Hermann Trophy, which is awarded to the top player in college soccer.
Pickett adds her third-team All-Great Lakes Region honor to a collection of awards that already included 2015 Big Ten Freshman of the Year, All-Big Ten second team and All-Big Ten Freshman Team plaudits. A native of Barrie, Ontario, the midfielder started all 16 matches she played in and notched eight points on two goals and four assists in her debut season with the Badgers.
A longstanding anchor in Wisconsin's defense, senior center back Stelzer garnered All-Great Lakes Region third team honors for the second straight season. A second-team All-Big Ten honoree, the native of Lakeville, Minnesota, helped the Badgers post eight shutouts over the final 11 games of the season.
