MADISON, Wis. -- Wisconsin's Shaelyn Sorensen will represent the United States in the women's junior race at the 2015 World Cross Country Championships in Guiyang, China, while the 2014 Big Ten Men's Cross Country Freshman of the Year, Morgan McDonald, will run for Australia in the men's junior race.
The women's junior race takes place on Friday at 11 p.m. (CT), while the men's junior race takes place at 11:30 p.m. (CT).
Sorensen, who redshirted this year's cross country and indoor track and field seasons, punched her ticket to the IAAF World Cross Country Championships with a sixth-place finish at the USA Cross Country Championships on Feb. 7. The Lake Elmo, Minnesota, native completed the 6-kilometer course in 22 minutes, 21 seconds, to earn the final spot on the Team USA squad that will compete at the world championships.
McDonald enjoyed a successful freshman season at Wisconsin, as he helped UW to a 10th-place showing at the 2014 NCAA Cross Country Championships. He also played a big role in UW capturing the Big Ten title, as his 12th-place showing was the best among freshman runners.
A native of Sydney, Australia, McDonald is no stranger to competing at IAAF events, as he placed 10th in the 5000 meters at the 2014 IAAF World Junior Track & Field Championships. He also competed in the junior race at the 2013 IAAF World Cross Country Championships, where he finished 33rd in 23:21.
