Schrobilgen earns spot on Capital One Academic All-District squad

MADISON, Wis. -- After winning a pair of Big Ten titles this season, Wisconsin sophomore Malachy Schrobilgen was recognized for his work in the classroom, as he was named to the Capital One Academic All-District Men's Track and Cross Country team for District 6, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Friday.
Schrobilgen holds a 3.56 grade-point average while majoring in history and political science. A 2014 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic cross country selection, Schrobilgen led the Badgers to at the 2014 NCAA Cross Country Championship with his 10th-place showing. He also helped Wisconsin claim its 47th Big Ten cross country title with his individual victory, marking the second-straight season the Oak Park, Illinois, native has won the individual conference title.
In his first-ever 10,000 meters on the track last week at the 2015 Big Ten Outdoor Championships, Schrobilgen won the race in 29 minutes, 19.55 seconds. He also finished sixth in the 5000 meters, scoring 13 of Wisconsin's 54 points. Schrobilgen, a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, also found success at the Big Ten indoor meet, finishing second in the 5000 meters and fourth in the 3000 meters.
Schrobilgen will compete in the 10,000 meters on Thursday at the 2015 NCAA West Preliminary Round in Austin, Texas. The top-12 finishers from the race will move on to the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon, June 10-13.
