MADISON, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin Athletic Department has launched a campaign to renovate the volleyball locker room located in the UW Field House. In addition to locker room space, the team lounge, study space, video room, athletic training room, and coaches' locker rooms will be enhanced. The 3,600-square-foot renovation is a $1.5 million project to be funded entirely by private gifts.
"These renovations will put our team-only facilities on par with many of our peers in the Big Ten and nationally," head coach Kelly Sheffield said. "Volleyball has a great tradition here and this project is the next step for our program to remain competitive from a facility standpoint."
Volleyball first competed in the Field House in 1977, hosting the Big Ten Conference Tournament. The facility became the permanent home of the team in 1986. Recent additions include a new wood floor installed in 2013 as well as an honor wall in 2014.
The success of the volleyball program includes two NCAA championship appearances, 11 NCAA regional appearances, 18 NCAA tournament appearances, and five Big Ten championships, including in 2014. Wisconsin has ranked among the top-10 for national attendance for 25 straight years, including the last 15 years in the top five.
"We are excited to work on moving this project forward and to continue to enhance the student-athlete experience at Wisconsin," UW Director of Athletics Barry Alvarez said.
