Ferrell wins Brown Deer Women's Amateur for third state major title to UW

Milwaukee, Wis. -- Brooke Ferrell led two other Badgers in a sweep of the three major golf championships in Wisconsin when she won the Brown Deer Women's Amateur Aug. 4 with an even par 72-72-144. UW sophomores Gabby Curtis was second with 76-74--150 and Becky Klongland placed third with 77-77--154 in the tournament at Brown Deer Park Golf Course in Milwaukee.
In the two other tournaments this summer, Klongland won her second-straight Wisconsin State Amateur July 26 with a 2-over par 71-73-71--215, and Curtis finished second with a 10-over 78-72-73--223. Curtis won the Wisconsin State Open July 18 with a 68-71--141 and Klongland was fourth with 72-79--151.
Ferrell was coming off a tie for second with 3-under par 71-72-70--213 in the Phil Kosin Illinois Women's Open July 29 at Mistwood Golf Club in Romeoville, Illinois. The 3-under 213 tied her career 54-hole best and the school record.
Ferrell, from Edgerton, Wisconsin, led the Badgers as a sophomore shooting the best all-time season average with 74.72 strokes per round. She was named All-Big Ten second team, UW's first since Kris Yoo in 2013. She led the team in five tournaments including the NCAA Regionals where she tied for 20th with an 11-over 224. Ferrell also holds the school freshman scoring record of 75.34 among other school marks.
