Freshman Ethan Happ has exploded onto the scene

MADISON, Wis. - The Jan. 27 edition of Varsity Magazine is now available, featuring an in-depth profile of Badger men's basketball freshman Ethan Happ as well as a look back at the 10-year anniversary of the unprecedented NCAA championship sweep by the UW men's and women's hockey teams in 2006.

With the departure of big men Frank Kaminsky and Sam Dekker from last year's team, everyone knew Ethan Happ had big shoes to fill. That's a lot to put on a redshirt freshman, even one who showed as much promise as Happ. However, his accelerated growth has been on display as he leads the Big Ten with seven double-doubles on the season and scored a career-high 25 points in the upset win over Indiana.UWBadgers.com Senior Writer Mike Lucas dug deep into Happ's background, talking to his dad, high school coach and even one of the coaches on his 2014 Albert Schweitzer Tournament team. Ten years ago the Badger men's and women's hockey teams captured NCAA titles in the same season, something that had never been done and hasn't been done since.UWBadgers.com Insider Andy Baggot takes a look back at both of those teams through the eyes of two prominent members, Jake Dowell on the men's side and Sharon Cole Faust on the women's side. A number of former Badger football players are looking to extend their playing careers as they audition for the NFL. One such player is Michael Caputo, who was named the Defensive MVP of the East-West Shrine Game last Saturday. Mike Lucas talked to Caputo after that performance to gauge where the standout safety views himself in the draft process.

In his weekly column, "The Voice of the Badgers" Matt Lepay talks about the topsy-turvy season that has been college basketball thus far.
