
Badgers improve to 12th in final day of Cougar Classic

Solid team showing pushes UW up three more spots
HANAHAN, S.C. -- In the final day of the Cougar Classic, the Wisconsin women's golf team put up one last fight to jump three spots up the leaderboard and claim 12th place amongst the 21-team field competing at the Yeamans Hall Club.

After ending the first round in a tie for 18th place, the Badgers returned to the course ready to claw their way up the team standings. UW (301-288-288=877) rebounded from a rough start to record an even par 288 in both the second and third rounds and finished the tournament at 13-over.

Senior Brooke Ferrell (75-67-75=217) finished tied for 27th to lead the Badgers for the second time this season. After finishing at 5-over, sophomore Nat Zeng (74-69-78=221) tied for 50th and matched her career 54-hole low.

Junior Becky Klongland (75-76-74=225) shot a 2-over 74 to finish the tournament with her best round and jump five spots to finish in a tie for 81st. Joining Klongland in the tie was sophomore Jessica Reinecke (79-76-70=225), who fired off a 2-under 70 in the final round to set a new career low. Junior Gabby Curtis (77-80-69=226) worked her way up 20 spots to tie for 83rd place by shooting a 3-under 69 to end the tournament on a high note.

At 26-under, North Carolina took home the tournament title while Furman (-18), Wake Forest (-13), Florida State (-9) and UCF (-8) rounded out the top five. Sixth-place Michigan finished 1-under, followed by South Carolina (+5), Auburn (+5), Arkansas (+7) and Louisville (+10).

Chattanooga finished just three strokes ahead of UW to claim 11th and the Badgers were three strokes ahead of 13th-place Maryland.

North Carolina State (+17), Mississippi State (+17), Penn State (+18), Clemson (+25), Coastal Carolina (+26), Indiana (+33) and Charleston Southern (+36) completed the 21-team field.

The Badgers conclude their fall season at the Cardinal Cup on Oct. 23-25 in Louisville, Kentucky, at the University of Louisville Golf Course.
