Senior forward’s four-point weekend earns him first career weekly award
MADISON, Wis. – For the first time in his career, senior forward Grant Besse has been recognized as one of the Big Ten's Stars of the Week. Besse's two-goal and two-assist weekend in Colorado earned him the third star on this week's list.
This marks the fourth time a Wisconsin player has been a player of the week this season. The other three players were defenseman Corbin McGuire and forwards Trent Frederic and Luke Kunin.
Besse, a native of Plymouth, Minnesota, scored the game-winning goal in Friday night's 2-1 victory over Colorado College. He also contributed one goal and two assists in the Badgers' 6-5 loss to No. 2 Denver on Saturday night.
The productive weekend for Besse moved him into the team lead for points with 15. He has the third-most tallies on the team with five, sitting only behind Luke Kunin and Trent Frederic, and the most assists with 10. The winger's goal against Colorado College, 16:23 into the second period, would prove to be enough for UW to hold on for a victory while his goal against Denver began a third-period rally that would fall just short.
Besse was drafted 147th overall by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2013 NHL entry draft.
Michigan State's Jerad Rosburg was this week's first star, while the Minnesota's Vinni Lettieri earned second-star honors.
The Badgers will return home this weekend as they take on the Omaha Mavericks. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. CT on Friday and will be televised on ASN, with streaming available on BTN2Go and radio broadcast on WIBA-AM 1310. Saturday's game will start at 8 p.m. CT and will be aired on the Wisconsin Channel and BTN2Go with the radio broadcast on WTSO-AM 1070.
