MADISON, Wis. – Badger student-athletes celebrated Halloween a few days early on Thursday, Oct. 27 at Capitol Lakes senior center. With decorations hung from the ceiling and candy scattered across the tables, residents trickled in wearing their best costumes. Winnie-the-Pooh, Tin Man and even a cheetah-witch showed up for the party!
Badger student-athletes arrived to Capitol Lakes dressed as a butterfly, monkey and professor and assisted the staff by handing out pretzels with dip, fresh apples and other sweet treats.
Student-athletes visited the senior center with hopes of brightening the residents' day, but as a result, the residents brightened theirs. "Attending Capitol Lakes is something that is special to me," said Cooper Barth of track and field. "Getting to celebrate Halloween and see all of the residents in their costumes made my day and gave us all a good reason to eat a bunch of candy!"

During the visit, student-athletes paired with residents and created mad-lib stories, while snacking on fruity candy and chocolates.
"I love seeing the residents of Capitol Lakes each week, and this Halloween party was a special treat," said Mathew Aronson of swimming and diving. "It was such a fun night, just visiting with the residents and getting ready for the Halloween weekend."
Visits to Capitol Lakes give student-athletes an opportunity to provide company and support to a special population, while also gaining a greater appreciation for the pastimes of older generations.
