Volleyball wraps up fourth straight year in top 10
MADISON, Wis. – For the fourth straight year, the Wisconsin volleyball team has ended the season ranked among the top-10 teams in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top 25 Coaches Poll. The Badgers wrap up the 2016 season ranked fifth, being ranked among the top-six teams all season long.
Wisconsin (28-5 in 2016) is one of only five teams that have been ranked in the top 10 nationally the last four seasons.
NCAA champion Stanford (27-7) ends the season ranked first while national finalist Texas (27-5) comes in second. NCAA semifinalists Minnesota (29-5) and Nebraska (31-3) are ranked third and fourth, respectively, followed by Wisconsin.
In addition to three of the top-five teams, the Big Ten Conference lands four other teams in the top 25. Penn State (24-10) ranks 10th while Michigan (24-11) finishes 14th. Ohio State (22-13) and Michigan State (25-9) end the year ranked 18th and 19th, respectively.
Wisconsin advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament, losing to eventual national champion Stanford in five sets, marking the fourth straight season of competing in at least the Sweet 16 leave of the post-season classic. The Badgers tied for second in the Big Ten at 17-3, their fourth straight season in the top four of the final standings.
