
Badgers announce 2017 track and field schedule

Wisconsin to host four home meets, including dual with Minnesota
MADISON, Wis. –Wisconsin Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Mick Byrne announced the 2017 track and field schedule for the Badgers on Tuesday, which features four home meets in Madison. Â
The Badgers open up their indoor season at home with the 2017 Badger Icebreaker, scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 14 in the Camp Randall Memorial Sports Complex.
A week later, the Badgers host a dual meet against Minnesota on Saturday, Jan. 21. This year marks the third-straight season that UW and the Golden Gophers have competed in a dual meet.
After spending its first two weekends at home, Wisconsin hits the road on Jan. 27-28 to compete in the Big Ten Conference Challenge hosted by Iowa.
Following their trip to Iowa City, the Badgers head east for the Armory Collegiate Invitational on Feb. 3-4 at the historic Armory in New York City. This season marks the fourth-straight year UW has traveled to the Big Apple for the invitational.
Trips to Ames, Iowa, for the Iowa State Classic on Feb. 10-11 and Seattle for the Husky Invitational on Feb. 10-11 precede the Badgers' final indoor home meet, the Wisconsin Shell Shocker on Feb. 17. Â
Once again the Badgers will travel to the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio, for the 2071 Big Ten Indoor Track and Field Championships on Feb. 24-25. The UW men finished runner-up at the Big Ten meet last year, while the women took home an eighth-place showing.
The 2016 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted in College Station, Texas, concludes Wisconsin's indoor season. The meet will take place on March 10-11 on the campus of Texas A&M University.
The outdoor season begins March 24-26, as the Badgers head to Riverside, California, for the UC Riverside Classic. Wisconsin travels west again April 6-8 for the Jim Click Invitational in Tucson, Arizona.
The weekend of April 21, the Wisconsin throwers fly to San Diego to compete at the Triton Invitational, while the rest of the team heads south for the John McDonnell Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Next on the schedule for UW is the 108th running of the Drake Relays, April 26-29, in Des Moines, Iowa. A group of Badgers will stay closer to home that weekend, competing at the UW-Whitewater Drake Alternative meet on April 29.
The final weekend of regular season action features a pair of meets on the schedule. A group of distance runners compete at the prestigious Payton Jordan Invitational in Stanford, California, on May 5 before the Badgers host the Wisconsin Invitational at the Dan McClimon Track on Saturday, May 6.
The 2017 Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held May 12-14 in State College, Pennsylvania.
Post-season competition continues with the NCAA West Preliminary Round on May 25-27 in Austin, Texas, with the national qualifiers competing at the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, June 7-10. In 2015, nine Badgers competed in Eugene with the women placing 14th and the men finishing 18th.
