BADGERS HOST NCAA REGIONAL
For the first time since 2000, Wisconsin (27-4) will host an NCAA volleyball regional. The third-seeded Badgers host No. 6-seed Stanford (23-7), Ohio State (22-12) and Florida State (26-5) in regional action on Friday and Saturday in the UW Field House.
    Wisconsin and Big Ten foe Ohio State open play on Friday at 1 p.m. in the first regional semifinal, live on ESPNU. Stanford and Florida State face off in the second semifinal at 3:30 p.m. on ESPN3.
    Semifinal winners advance to Saturday's regional final at 5 p.m. on ESPNU, with the victor advancing to the NCAA Championship semifinals on Dec. 15 at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.Â

FIVE NAMED ALL-REGION
Five Badgers were named to the AVCA Northeast All-Region team.
Senior
Lauren Carlini earned her fourth-straight all-region honor, while senior
Haleigh Nelson became a three-time all-region pick. Sophomore
Tionna Williams was recognized with her first all-region award after being named the regional freshman of the year in 2015.
Molly Haggerty became the second-straight Badger to be named regional freshman of the year, while also earning all-region honors. Fifth-year senior Romana Krišková was awarded honorable mention all-region honors.

Kelly Sheffield was also named the Northeast Regional Coach of the Year, his second honor at Wisconsin and the fourth of his career.

    The Badgers have played the third-toughest schedule in the country, according to the NCAA stats released Dec. 4. TCU leads the list while Texas ranks second. Minnesota and Purdue rank fourth and fifth, respectively.Â
HITTING HALEIGH
In the last three matches, senior
Haleigh Nelson has been near perfect in her attack, not recording a hitting error.
    Over the last three matches, the 6-4 middle blocker is hitting 30K-0E-56TA for a .536 hitting percentage. Â
    Nelson leads the Badgers this season with a .389 attack percentage.
SERVICE PLEASE
For the fourth time this season, the Badgers did not give up a service ace in a match.Â
    Wisconsin out-aced Howard 3-0 from the service line on Thursday. UW allows just 0.54 service aces per set this season, which leads the Big Ten. UW has given up only 61 service aces on the season.Â
    The Badgers have given up six-or-fewer service aces in all 31 matches this season, including 24 matches with two-or-less.Â
    UW averages 1.16 aces per set (130 total), which ranks eighth in the Big Ten.Â

    Nelson ranks 17th in kills on the UW career record list. The 6-4 middle blocker has 1,096 kills in her fourth season, needing 12 kills to move into 16th. Marisa Mackey (1995-98) currently ranks 16th with 1,107 kills.Â
    Nelson picked up the 1,000th kill of her career against Rutgers on Oct. 30. She became the 20th UW player and seventh middle blocker to record 1,000 kills.Â
    She became the 41st Big Ten athlete and seventh UW player to record 500 blocks at Texas on Sept. 18. She is just the fifth Wisconsin player to record more than 1,000 career kills and 500 career blocks.Â
    Nelson also moved into fourth on the UW record list for total blocks with 587 total stuffs. She needs 32 blocks to move into third, a position currently held by Arlisa Hagan (1989-92) with 618 blocks.Â
    Nelson also ranks third in block assists (530) and continues to rank seventh in blocks per set (1.20).Â
    She ranks first for UW career hitting percentage at .372, moving her ahead of her with Livingston, who hit .366.
DOUBLE BADGERS

Lauren Carlini picked up career double-double No. 73 against Howard on Thursday with 41 assists and 10 digs. The 6-2 setter leads the Big Ten this season with 17 double-doubles and is the UW record holder for career marks.

Molly Haggerty has eight double-doubles this season, which ties for eighth in the Big Ten. Â

IT'S ALL ABOUT THE BATES
Junior
Kelli Bates picked up the 1,000th dig of her career at Minnesota on Nov. 26. The 5-11 libero/outside hitter has 1,033 saves in her third season, becoming the 16th Badger to record 1,000 digs.
She has record 10-plus digs in nine straight matches and a team-best 24 matches this season. Bates also has 20-plus digs in eight matches.
Bates leads the Badgers and ranks eighth in the Big Ten with 4.00 digs per set. Â
She has shown her versatility all season long, starting 12 matches at outside hitter and 19 matches at libero.
One of the team's top passers, Bates has been aced only 14 times in 496 receptions for 97.2 percent. She also ranks third on the team with 18 service aces.
Bates also takes over at setter when
Lauren Carlini has the dig. She has two-or-more assists in eight of the last nine matches, tying her career high with five helpers in two matches, including against Howard on Friday.Â
CARLINI RANKS SECOND
Senior
Lauren Carlini ranks second at Wisconsin with 5,480 assists. She needs 353 assists to move into first, currently held by Laura Abbinante (1993-96) with 5,833 helpers. Â
Carlini became just the third Badger and 21st Big Ten setter to record 5,000 career assists against Rutgers on Oct. 30. Â
Carlini also ranks seventh in career digs with 1,344, needing 54 digs to pass Erin Byrd (1999-2002), who had 1,397 digs, for sixth on the UW record list. She also has 123 service aces, which ranks eighth, needing 11 service aces to move into seventh, a spot currently held by Abbinante with 133 aces.
Carlini also ranks fifth in career assists per set (11.51).
GILLIS ON THE ATTACK
Over the last eight matches, junior
Lauryn Gillis is averaging 3.33 kills per set while hitting .251.
She has 10-or-more kills in seven of the last eight matches to bring her season total to double-figure kills in 16 contests.
The 6-1 outside hitter ranks second on the team and 12th in the Big Ten with 3.08 kills per set. .
Gillis set a career high with 21 kills against Penn State on Oct. 28.
WILLIAMS WITH THE STOP
Sophomore
Tionna Williams has five-or-more blocks in six of the last seven matches. The 6-2 middle blocker is averaging 1.33 blocks per set over the stretch.
Williams leads the Badgers and ranks sixth in the Big Ten with 1.27 blocks per set. She tied her career high with eight blocks against Ohio State on Sept. 23.
Ranking fourth on the team with 2.28 kills per set, Williams had a career-high 18 kills vs. Illinois on Oct. 8.
HAGGERTY DOES IT ALL
Freshman
Molly Haggerty's streak of six straight matches in double-figure kills came to an end with only six kills against Washington State on Saturday.
The 6-1 outside hitter had 10-plus kills from Nov. 12–Dec. 1, averaging 4.08 kills per set.
Haggerty leads the Badgers and ranks seventh in the Big Ten with 3.45 kills per set. She also ranks third on the team 2.40 digs per set and is one of UW's top passers. The freshman, who is often targeted by opposing teams, has been aced just 16 times on 617 serve receptions (.974). Â
DIG THAT BALL!
The Badgers have outdug seven of their last eight opponents, averaging 16.80 digs per set over the last eight matches. Junior Kelly Bates has led the team over the stretch, averaging 4.60 digs per set.
On the season, Wisconsin leads the Big Ten with 15.44 digs per set.

    Minnesota (25-4) takes over the top spot after downing Nebraska last week. The Huskers (27-2) fall to second followed by the Badgers. Kansas (26-2) and Texas (22-4) are ranked fourth and fifth, respectively. Â

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Ohio State
The Buckeyes earned a place in the NCAA regional semifinals with a sweep of Missouri State on Friday before upsetting 14th-seeded Kansas State in five sets on Saturday. OSU improved to 22-12 on the season with its pair of wins.
   Ohio State averages a .253 hitting percentage (1788 K - 712 E - 4259 TA), led by 6-2 senior middle blocker Taylor Sandbothe's 493 kills. Sandbothe averages 3.88 kills per set, while 6-1 sophomore outside hitter Audra Appold finishes 3.02 and 6-1 junior outside hitter Luisa Schirmer adds 2.72 kills per set.
   Taylor Hughes, a 6-1 sophomore setter, has put up 1218 assists (9.59/set) to pace the team, adding 1.70 kills per set and 1.88 digs per set. Hughes also leads the Buckeyes with 42 aces (0.33/set).
   Sandbothe serves up 0.26 aces per set while Schirmer and 5-6 senior defensive specialist Valeria Leon average 0.24 and 0.14 aces per set, respectively.
   Leon has saved 516 digs (4.06/set) wile Schirmer contributes 2.37 saves per set., as well as 0.32 blocks per set.
   Hughes stuffs 0.61 blocks per set, followed by 6-3 rookie middle blocker Madison Smeathers with 0.55 blocks.

Florida State
FSU has gone 26-5 this season, advancing in the tournament on a 3-1 win over Cincinnati on Friday and a 3-2 upset of No. 11 Florida on Saturday.
   The Seminoles' offense is led by 6-4 junior outside hitter Milica Kubura, averaging 2.99 kills per set. Katie Horton, a 6-1 senior outside hitter, hits 2.90 kills per set while 6-3 redshirt sophomore outside hitter Christina Ambrose adds 2.35 kills per frame. Mara Green, a 6-1 redshirt senior middle blocker, contributes 1.93 kills per set while 6-1 senior middle blocker Melanie Keil and 6-1 junior right side hitter Natasha Calkins each add 1.36 kills per set.
   The Seminoles run a 6-2 offense with Brianne Burkert, a 6-1 sophomore setter, dishing out 6.22 assists per set while six-foot freshman setter Hailey Luke puts up 5.10 helpers per frame.
   Horton leads the squad with 22 aces (0.18/set) while Keil, Burkert and Luke have each served up 20 aces.
   Keil stuffs 1.59 blocks per frame while Green contributes 1.07 blocks per set.
   Cecile Woie, a 5-6 junior libero, saves 3.93 digs per set, followed by Horton with 3.30 digs per frame. Burkert rounds out the defense with 2.03 digs per set.

Stanford went 23-7 on the season, securing sweeps over Denver and Boise State in the first and second round of the NCAA tournament.
     Kathryn Plummer, a 6-6 freshman outside hitter, leads the Cardinal offense with 3.31 kills per set while 6-3 redshirt senior middle blocker Inky Ajanaku hits 2.70 kills per set and 6-6 freshman middle blocker Audriana Fitzmorris averages 2.46 kills per frame.
   Jenna Gray, a 6-1 rookie setter, puts up 8.67 assists per set, adding 17 service aces (0.15/set) and 1.70 digs per set. Six-foot senior setter Kelsey Humphreys adds 3.25 assists per frame as well as 13 aces (0.12/set) and 1.77 digs per set.
   Halland McKenna, a 5-7 sophomore defensive specialist, leads all players with 19 aces (0.17/set), adding 1.48 digs per set.
   Morgan Hentz, a 5-9 rookie libero, saves 4.63 digs per set while 6-2 freshman outside hitter Michaela Keefe and 6-3 sophomore outside hitter Haley Hodson save 2.71 and 2.19 digs per set, respectively.
   Ajanaku leads Stanford with 1.48 blocks per set, adding 0.33 digs per frame. Fitzmorris contributes 1.45 blocks per set, 6-2 sophomore middle blocker Tami Alade adds 1.42 stuffs and 6-8 redshirt junior opposite hitter Merete Lutz rounds out the blockers with 1.07 blocks per set.
